Spring Bird Feeder Cleaning Event

Saturday, April 19th 10AM-3PM *$3 per feeder suggested donation*

Periodic feeder cleaning is part of responsible bird feeding.  Join us April 19th from 10AM-3PM for our spring Bird Feeder Cleaning Event.  The Will County Audubon Society will be returning to help clean your feeders.  You are welcome to stay in the store while your feeders are being cleaned or we can call you when they are ready for pickup.  While you are here, learn how easy and beneficial it is to clean your feeders at home and chat with WCAS members about the fun activities and events they provide.  *Suggested $3 per feeder donation - proceeds will go to the MOTUS Project (The Illinois Motus Network).  This network includes thrity telemetry towners that track migratory bird movement.  Learn more about the Motus Project HERE! 

In-Store Presentation: "Creating Seasonal Beauty: Native Plants for Four Seasons Interest"

Saturday, April 26th 11AM  *Free- Must Call Store to Register (815-744-3800)

Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Most rely on blooms and berries for interest and struggle to find ways to extend their garden's interest beyond the short windows that those biologic splashes allow.  Turning to ornamentals may do it for some, but at the cost of pollinators and bird engagement. Kelsay Shaw, co-owner of the Possibility Place Nursery, will show you the broader world of native plants and their uses AS ornamentals to extend your gardens interest to a four seasons wonderland. Native plants are more than about pollinators and spring flowers.  So many natives stay structurally awesome and colorful far longer than you'd expect. 

Good Steward Ecoscapes In-Person Native Plant Sale 

Friday & Saturday May 2nd & 3rd 10AM-4PM

Help create habitat in your own backyard by adding native plants.  Shop an array of native plants, mostly flowers, during the Good Steward Native Plant Sale.  Containers will mostly be plugs and gallon sizes, with some pint sizes available. While you shop, learn how to entice more butterflies and birds to your yard using native plants by chatting with Andrew Hedman, owner of Good Steward Ecoscapes.  Plant Species List will be annouced - Stay tuned for more info.  

Bird Outing at Possibility Place Nursery

Saturday, May 3rd - Tours start at 9AM - **FREE- MUST CALL TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT (815-744-3800)

Join us for a guided birding adventure at Possibility Place Nursery in Monee, where expert Will County Audubon Society birding leaders and nursery staff will take you to the best birding spots on the farm. Each 45 min tour offers an opportunity to see a variety of birds while learning about the vital connection between native plants and wildlife.  After the tour, relax on the patio and chat with Connor the nursery's founder and Ellen owner of WBU Joliet, browse the native plant store, and learn about Smithsonian Certified Bird Friendly Coffee.  

WBU Birding Field Trip : Messenger Woods (Homer Glen)

Monday, May 5th 9AM  - Messenger Woods (13800 W Bruce Rd., Homer Glen 60491) - Call Store to Register for the Free Outing (815-744-3800)

Join us for our first Field Trip Bird Outing! For this outing we will be going to Messenger Woods Nature Preserve in Homer Glen.  This field trip will be replacing our usualy Monthly Monday Morning Bird Outing at Rock Run Greenway.  Meet us at 9AM in the small lot at the far North ed of the drive at Messenger Woods.  Will County Audubon Society Members will be present to ensure we don't miss any resident and migrating visitor birds! This is a great opportunity to meet other birding enthusiasts and lean how to participate in more local birding activities. Don't forget to bring your optics and to dress for the weather!  It is also advised to download the MerlinID App on your smart phone.  This outing is ideal for birders of all ages and experiences.  Please call the store to register for this outing! Native Plant Container Garden Workshop

Join us for a hands-on workshop where you'll create your own beautiful native plant container garden - perfect for patios, balconies, or small spaces!  Learn about the benefits of native plants and how they support pollinators and birds in your own yard.  This is a perfect activity to do with or for Mom! Fee includes a fiber pot, dirt, and 5 native plants of your choosing.  Space is limited!  Must call store to reserve your spot!  This activity is made possible through our partnership with Good Steward Ecoscapes, experts in sustainable landscaping and native plant design.

2025 Be a Trailblazer Challenge

Join the "Be a Trailblazer" digital scavenger hunt that will have you adventuring to and through the Will County preservbes at your own pace and on your own schedule throughout 2025.  Get started by downloading the Goosechase app to your smartphone and joining the "Be a Trailblazer" experience.  Once your in, visit the preserves to complete the dozens of challenges that will have you snapping pics in nature and checking in at various spots in the preserves.  More than $10,000 in prizes will be up for grabs, so start today- don't delay!
